Unfortunately, far too many families in The Hills are impacted by Domestic Violence.
On the positive side, we are a community that is committed to standing against Domestic Violence, and a question I am asked by many residents very often is “how can I help those in need of assistance here in The Hills”.
For those who are in a position to help, my personal recommendation is to lend support to the leading two organisations providing front line services to local women who have experienced Domestic Violence, The Sanctuary and the Lisa Harnum Foundation.
The Sanctuary is the only 6 bedroom shelter in The Hills, providing short-term crisis accommodation to women and children who are leaving domestic violence. Over the last ten years, The Sanctuary has provided an unparalleled service in The Hills to help hundreds of women and families get back on their feet. You can assist The Sanctuary by volunteering, donating or fundraising here
The Sanctuary ShelterThe Lisa Harnum Foundation provide crucial support to women and families impacted by Domestic Violence in The Hills and beyond, providing Safe Rooms, case management, counselling, education and monthly group support. In particular, the Safe Rooms provide a unique service to allow women and families to get the support that they need. You can assist the Lisa Harnum Foundation by volunteering here.
The Lisa Harnum Foundation WebsiteThe Council I led as Mayor was proud to support both The Sanctuary and The Lisa Harnum Foundation, and I am also proud to continue to assist as a board member of The Lisa Harnum Foundation.
