Speaking during the recent New South Wales Budget debate, Riverstone MP Warren Kirby said this year’s Budget represents a significant investment in the people of Western Sydney, with a focus on delivering the infrastructure and services that rapidly growing communities have been waiting for.
Investing in Health for a Growing Community
A major focus of the Budget is healthcare, with the NSW Government investing $10.3 billion over four years to expand the health workforce and increase hospital capacity across the state.
For families in Sydney’s north-west, the centrepiece of that investment is the $910 million Rouse Hill Hospital.
Originally proposed as a smaller facility, the project has grown into a full-service hospital that will include an emergency department and comprehensive maternity services, providing much-needed healthcare closer to home for thousands of local residents.
Across Western Sydney, the Government is investing $3.8 billion in health infrastructure, alongside funding for an additional 9,000 healthcare workers, including significant wage increases for nurses and midwives.
“Our community deserves access to quality healthcare close to home,” Mr Kirby said during the Budget debate.
New Schools for a New Generation
Education remains another major priority as thousands of young families continue to move into the Riverstone electorate.
The Budget includes a $9.2 billion investment in new and upgraded public schools across New South Wales, with $4.1 billion dedicated to Western Sydney.
For Riverstone, this builds on commitments already underway to deliver four new schools and upgrades to four existing schools, helping ensure students can learn in modern permanent classrooms rather than temporary facilities.
The Government also reports that teacher vacancies have fallen significantly across the state, with more than 25,000 teachers and school support staff now employed in permanent roles.
For multicultural families, many of whom have settled in Sydney’s north-west seeking quality education for their children, these investments aim to provide greater certainty as the region continues to expand.
Tackling Congestion and Supporting Commuters
Road congestion remains one of the biggest daily challenges facing local residents.
To help address this, the Budget includes $190 million in additional funding for upgrades to Windsor Road and Commercial Road at Rouse Hill, bringing the total investment in the project to $400 million.
The funding forms part of a broader program of major road improvements across the electorate designed to improve safety and reduce travel times.
Families will also benefit from several cost-of-living measures affecting motorists and public transport users, including:
- A $100 discount on private vehicle registration.
- An $80 discount on motorcycle registration.
- A reduction in the weekly toll cap from $60 to $50.
- Removal of toll administration fees.
- A 12-month freeze on Opal public transport fares.
These measures are expected to particularly benefit residents of Sydney’s north-west, where long commuting distances are a daily reality for many workers.
Supporting Essential Workers
The Budget also places a strong emphasis on rebuilding the public workforce, with increased investment in teachers, nurses, midwives, police and other frontline staff.
According to Mr Kirby, improving wages and employment conditions helps attract and retain the professionals needed to support rapidly growing communities like Riverstone.
He said these investments recognise the vital contribution essential workers make every day in schools, hospitals and emergency services.
