By Rajiv Chaudhri
In a landmark achievement, the New South Wales Blues secured their first-ever Women’s State of Origin series win, overpowering the Queensland Maroons 26–6 in Game 2 at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium on Thursday night.
The match, played under challenging wet conditions, saw the Blues dominate both halves, leading 12–6 at halftime before adding 14 unanswered points in the second half. Olivia Kernick delivered a standout performance, scoring two tries and earning the Player of the Match accolade.
The Blues’ victory in Game 2 follows their impressive 32–12 win in the series opener at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, where Jesse Southwell’s playmaking and kicking game were pivotal. With this win, NSW has clinched the series ahead of the third and final game scheduled for May 29 in Newcastle.
This triumph marks a significant milestone for the NSW women’s team, reflecting their growth and determination in the State of Origin arena. The series win not only breaks Queensland’s dominance but also sets the stage for a potential series whitewash, a first in women’s Origin history.
