Transitional Community Housing – Bridging the gap to a safe home
A message from the TCH Board
At Transitional Community Housing Ltd (TCH), we believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home. TCH is a totally volunteer community-run ACNC registered charity helping older women and women with dependent children who are experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness. Commencing in The Hills district as the Kenthurst Project, our volunteers have already supported 18 women including 31 children to rebuild their lives in safe, stable housing. Our work is powered by the generosity of local supporters, fundraising events, community grants, and submissions for one-off grants.
A Bridge to safety and stability
TCH works with private property owners and Community Housing Providers to secure transitional homes below market rental. The homes are safe havens where women and children can live for up to two years while getting back on their feet.
Our role is simple but life-changing: we fund the rental gap which the difference between what a family can afford and what the market rent demands. Through strong community partnerships, tenants have ongoing emotional and social support to help them rebuild their lives.
*Gerda’s story; Finding home again
“When I first reached out, I was overwhelmed,” shares Gerda. “I didn’t just need somewhere to stay; I needed a home.” After a sudden life change, Gerda and her children found themselves without housing or a rental history. TCH provided more than just a roof: they ensured the house was move-in ready — beds, linen, fridge, and all.
“It was such a relief,” Gerda remembers. “I could rent at a rate I could manage while waiting for Centrelink support. That help gave me the emotional energy to focus on my kids and our future.”
You can help change the ending
Homelessness doesn’t only happen to strangers — it happens to hardworking mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmothers who suddenly find their world turned upside down. Your donation can be the bridge between fear and safety — between surviving and thriving. Every dollar given, goes directly toward securing homes and stability for women and children either homeless or about to be homeless. Hope begins with a home — and it can start with you. Together, we can make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring. Together, we can give hope, one home at a time.
