Harmohan “Harry” Walia – Capturing Moments, Preserving Memories
By Rajiv Chaudhri Editor In Chief
For decades, Harmohan Walia, affectionately known as “Harry” within Sydney’s vibrant multicultural community has stood behind the lens, quietly documenting some of the most cherished moments in community life. A passionate and dedicated photographer, Harry, resident of the Hills, is instantly recognisable with his camera in hand and a gentle smile on his face, always ready to capture the perfect shot without ever seeking the spotlight himself.
Originally from India, Harry migrated to Australia with a love for
storytelling through imagery. Over the years, he has become a familiar and respected presence at countless cultural events, religious festivals, charity galas, political functions, and family celebrations across New South Wales. From Diwali nights to multicultural festivals, from citizenship ceremonies to intimate weddings, Harry has been there, freezing time through his lens, creating visual archives that now form a vital part of our shared community memory.
What sets Harry apart is not just his technical skill, but his quiet humility and respect for every person and occasion he photographs. Never intrusive, always respectful, Harry has earned the trust of community leaders, organisers, and families alike. Many regard him not just as a photographer, but as a custodian of collective history.

In recognition of his work, Harry has published three stunning coffee table books, elegant visual collections that celebrate cultural harmony, diversity, and the Australian Indian journey. His photographs are not just images; they are windows into the soul of a community, lovingly preserved by the ever-gracious Harry.
