Australia secured a commanding win against the West Indies in the first Test at Kensington Oval, Barbados, wrapping up the match within three days. The victory was propelled by a stellar bowling performance, particularly from Josh Hazlewood.

After being dismissed for 180 in their first innings, Australia faced a narrow 10-run deficit as the West Indies managed 190. In their second innings, Australia posted 310, thanks to crucial contributions from Travis Head, Beau Webster, and Alex Carey. This set the West Indies a target of 301 runs.

Hazlewood then delivered a devastating spell, taking 5 wickets for 43 runs, including a remarkable burst of 4 wickets for just 5 runs in five overs. His efforts dismantled the West Indies’ batting lineup, leading to their dismissal for 141 in a single session. This performance marked Hazlewood’s 13th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Despite the victory, concerns linger over Australia’s top-order batting. The team suffered early collapses in both innings, with debutant Sam Konstas and Cameron Green struggling to make significant impacts. Former cricketer Ian Healy criticised the batting coach, Michael Di Venuto, questioning the effectiveness of the current coaching setup.

The match also saw controversy over umpiring decisions, with West Indies coach Darren Sammy expressing dissatisfaction with several calls, particularly those involving the Decision Review System (DRS).
With this victory, Australia takes a 1-0 lead in the series, showcasing their bowling prowess while highlighting areas for improvement in their batting lineup.
