Fred Caterson Reserve in Castle Hill has long been regarded as one of The Hills’ most treasured green spaces, a sanctuary for wildlife and a haven for local families, walkers, and sports enthusiasts. But now, 6.8 hectares of environmentally sensitive land within the reserve are under threat, sparking a strong community campaign to protect it.
Fred Caterson Champions Inc (FCC), a local advocacy group, has announced a major escalation in their fight against The Hills Shire Council’s plans that could impact the reserve’s natural environment. At a press conference today (Friday, September 5), FCC will outline its next steps in what it describes as a defining moment for the future of this unique landscape.
The reserve, rich with native bushland, water catchments, and biodiversity, has become a symbol of the tension between urban development and environmental preservation. Residents argue that once this green corridor is lost, it cannot be replaced and future generations will inherit a suburb with less balance between nature and built form.
FCC is urging the public to unite behind the cause, emphasising that community voices are central to saving Castle Hill’s “green heart.” The campaign has already attracted widespread support through grassroots movements like the Fred Caterson Action Group, which has been mobilising locals via social media.
As the battle for Fred Caterson Reserve intensifies, the message is clear: protecting green space is not just about preserving land, it’s about preserving identity, heritage, and a healthier future for The Hills.
