CommBank Young Socceroos Name Squad for FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 Pre-Camp

CommBank Young Socceroos Head Coach Trevor Morgan has announced a 23-player squad for a pre-camp ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025™.

The tournament, running from 27 September to 19 October, will feature 24 nations. Australia qualified for the 24th edition of the competition after their history-making victory at the AFC U-20 Asian Cup China 2025™.

Before the tournament begins, the squad will be trimmed to 21 players. The Young Socceroos open their campaign against Italy on Sunday, 28 September at the Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander in Valparaíso.

Squad Highlights

  • 17 players from the victorious AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2025™ squad return.

  • Notable inclusions: Nathan Amanatidis, Liam Bonetig, Max Caputo, Daniel Graskoski, Rhys Youlley, and James Overy (impressive at the U18 UEFA Friendship Cup in June).

  • Paul Okon-Engstler could become part of the first father-son duo to represent Australia at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, following in the footsteps of his father, Paul, who played in Australia’s fourth-place finish at Portugal 1991.

Path to Glory

The Young Socceroos will represent Asia alongside Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Korea Republic.

The top two teams from each group, plus the four best third-place finishers, will progress to the Round of 16 (7–9 October). The tournament then moves to the quarterfinals (11–12 October), semifinals (15 October), and the final on Sunday, 19 October 2025.

Australia has a proud history at this tournament, with past participants including Mark Viduka, Aaron Mooy, Mark Bresciano, Lucas Neill, Mile Jedinak, Craig Moore, Trent Sainsbury, and Joshua Kennedy, many of whom went on to captain the Socceroos on the world stage.
