Australian football stands on the cusp of a new chapter as Joe Montemurro takes the reins as Head Coach of the Matildas. A respected tactician with a global pedigree, Montemurro brings to the national team a wealth of experience drawn from a career that has taken him from the A-League to the heights of European football.
Best known for his successful stint at Arsenal Women, where he led the side to a Women’s Super League title and consistent Champions League appearances, Montemurro has earned international acclaim for his intelligent, possession-based style of play and his calm, player-first approach to leadership.

His coaching journey began right here in Australia with Melbourne City, where he laid the foundations for their early W-League dominance.

On the final day of the CommBank Emerging Matildas Championships 2025 at Valentine Sports Park, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Joe Montemurro for an exclusive interview.
