Making the Invisible Visible – Soroptimist International of The Hills District
By Jacui McLachlan
Soroptimist International of The Hills District has launched a powerful community awareness project, Making the Invisible Visible, as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The display, located in Roxborough Park Rose Garden, Baulkham Hills, honours the lives of 30 women tragically killed through domestic violence in Australia during 2024–2025. Each name represents a story cut short and a stark reminder of the urgency to address this national crisis.
Alongside the memorial is a series of information posters that outline key facts, impacts, and warning signs of domestic violence. The display aims not only to commemorate lost lives but also to spark conversation, encourage community vigilance, and highlight the need for ongoing advocacy.
Soroptimist International, a global volunteer movement working to transform the lives of women and girls, is deeply committed to promoting human rights, gender equality and ending violence against women. This project reflects Soroptimist International’s longstanding dedication to raising awareness, supporting survivors, and influencing positive policy change at local, national, and international levels.
Making the Invisible Visible forms part of a wider The Hills Shire Council’s response to domestic and family violence, supported by local residents, organisations, and services who share a commitment to creating a safer future for women and girls. Soroptimist International of The Hills District hopes the display will encourage community members to pause, reflect, and stand united in calling for change.
