Brewing Talent and Triumph: CommBank Emerging Matildas Championships Kick Off at Valentine Sports Park

Football NSW’s Valentine Sports Park in Glenwood is set to come alive tomorrow, July 15th, as it kicks off the 2025 Emerging Matildas Championships, showcasing Australia’s top Under‑15 and Under‑16 female football talent. The week‑long tournament (running through July 20th) will feature teams from all nine State and Territory member federations of Football Australia vying for national honours and a chance to impress national team scouts.

As Football Australia’s premier youth competition rebranded from the National Youth Championship, this event stands as a crucial milestone in the elite development pathway, with many past participants, such as Mackenzie Arnold, Kyra Cooney‑Cross, Hayley Raso and Emily van Egmond, now established CommBank Matildas. With free entry to all fixtures, it’s a terrific family friendly sporting spectacle for the community.

Adding to the community atmosphere, The Community Foundation of North Western Sydney’s Project Barista Connect will be fuelling the crowd with some other hospitality vendors. Their mobile café, staffed by trainees from the social enterprise initiative, will be serving up free coffees and hot drinks on site. Project Barista Connect is a charitable program designed to create employment pathways for young people through barista training and industry experience.
